When, where, why, and how was the Berlin Wall built? Why doesn’t it exist anymore? And who did all those colorful paintings on the Wall, anyway?
Using selected exhibits from the permanent exhibition, the pupils will learn interesting facts about the construction and fall of the Berlin Wall. A segment of the Berlin Wall on the Museum grounds helps to make the division of the city real. We will use examples of graffiti and pictures from the Wall to discuss key concepts such as freedom and division.
The visit to the last guardhouse from the famous Checkpoint Charlie on Friedrichstraße addresses the question of why the Western powers did nothing to stop the Wall from being built. The tour ends in 1994 with the withdrawal of the Allied troops.
